Who Is Martian Manhunter? | Origin | Powers | Weakness

In this post, we will learn about who is Martian Manhunter. His real name is J'onn J'onzz and he is from Mars.

Today we will learn about the back story of Martian Manhunter, one of the 5 most powerful characters of the DC Universe. And we will also know how powerful this green-skinned superhero is?

The Martian Manhunter was first seen in 1955 in Issue 255 of Detective Comics. This character was created by Joseph Samachson and Joe Certa.

The Origin Of Martian Manhunter

Now if we talk about the origin of The Martian Manhunter, Then there are 2 origins that have been mentioned in DC Comics. One is the Original origin and another is the New52 origin.

The Original Origin

First of all, let’s talk about the original origin.

The real name of Martian Manhunter is J’onn J’onzz. He was a resident of Mars and was a Peace Lover character. J’onn was the most powerful creature on his planet, he got the name of Manhunter because he killed any creature that would attack Mars.

How Martian Manhunter Came To Earth?

The story of J’onn J’onzz coming to earth is that once on earth a scientist DR. Erdel was performing a secret experiment and in doing all this, he accidentally transported Martian Manhunter to the earth.

But seeing the 7 feet tall green powerful creature in front of him, the doctor had a heart attack and he died. So this is how Martian Manhunter got stuck on earth and the transportation technology that bring J’onn to the earth also deteriorated.

After that J’onn J’onzz stayed on earth to help the weak and fight for justice and truth, which he had been doing for a long time on his Planet Mars.

He changed his form with his shape-shifting ability and started playing many roles. Such as Detective Superheroes, Spy, Diplomat, and many more.

The Martian Manhunter was later re-introduced in 1985, as the founding member of the Justice-League of America. Which we saw in Brave and the Bold Issue28.

After that J’onn went back to his planet Mars and sometimes came back to earth when he was very much needed. Only to play a cameo role.

Since Crisis On Infinite Earth, Manhunter became a big superhero in the Justice League and in the DC Universe.

He also became the leader of the Justice League International team. After that, he got great exposure to many issues. But as shown in the final Crisis Manhunter died.

The New52 Origin

As we know in Comics, they don’t let die any superhero for too long. So he was featured a few years later in the Blackest Night Mini-Series and the Brightest Day Mini Series.

After that DC Universe was completely rebooted in DC’s New52 comics.

In which Manhunter was again featured on his own Planet Mars. On Mars, there were many invaders used to attack mars, whom the Martian drove away. But once in a fight, his entire planet was burnt.

He was the only one who survived on Mars. Then he decided that whoever did this, would kill him and avenge his people’s death, and he kept his name as Martian Manhunter.

While searching for that person who destroyed his planet, he came to the Earth, where he found Telepath Thoth.

Thoth was the one who destroyed the mars and killed all the Martians. J’onn J’onzz then killed the Telepath Thoth.

Then the J’onn J’onzz stays on earth and became a member of The Justice League. So this story was about the origin of Martian Manhunter.

Powers Of Martian Manhunter

Now if we talk about the powers of Martian Manhunter, then J’onn J’onzz can beat any superhero in the fight.

Martian Manhunter has Superhuman Strength, Durability, Flight, Regeneration, Shape Shifting, Intangibility (means going beyond anything solid), Invisibility, Telepathy, Telekinesis, optic blast, and many more.

J’onn J’onzz can fly at rocket speed. Also, he has super breath so that he can create a hurricane with one breath.

He can become small or big in size like Ant-Man, his healing factor is of Wolverine and Deadpool levels.

Martian Manhunter is a fairly underrated Superhero, despite having detective tactics like Batman, strength like Superman, and intangibility like Vision. In the DC Universe, J’onn J’onzz was never given the respect which he deserved.

Once the superman had said, “If I can tell the names of 10 people that I am afraid to fight, then the name of Manhunter will be at the top.”

At the same time, Batman once said that if the strength of Superman and the Detective Powers of Dark knight is mixed, then the powers of manhunter will be equal.

So you people can understand how powerful J’onn J’onzz is. More than that, Martian Manhunter has also beaten the Justice League of America.

Weakness of Martian Manhunter

Now if we talk about the weakness of Martian Manhunter, then he also has one weakness. J’onn J’onzz is scared of Fire. Because his Planet Mars was completely destroyed by the fire. That is why he is very afraid of fire.

But fire cannot harm him too much but in spite of this, the mental state of Manhunter is that he is scared after seeing the fire.

Conclusion

But in spite of all this, according to me, he is one of the top 5 superheroes of the DC Universe. J’onn J’onzz has also appeared in several DC’s Animated movies. J’onn J’onzz also appeared in the end credits scene of Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie. Manhunter also appears on DC CW’s show Supergirl.
