The easiest way to criticize Abhishek Bachchan’s The Big Bull is to compare it with Prateek Gandhi’s scam in 1992 and then in every case tell this new film to be a flop.
But this simple way will do injustice to the hard work of the makers and artists. That is why we talk about the aspects except for comparison and understand where the lapse occurred and where this film was strong.
Trailer of The Big Bull
Story of The Big Bull
Independent India’s biggest stock market scam, which can also be called the Harshad Mehta scam. So many books have come, we have watched so many YouTube videos about Harshad Mehta Scam that everyone is aware of the story now.
Everyone knows how this scam happened, which were the weak links used by Harshad Mehta. After watching a series of 10 episodes, the scope is still short, so the challenges were very much in front of Big Bull.
Everyone has been given fictional names in the film. Harshad Mehta has become Hemant Shah (Abhishek Bachchan), Ashok Mirchandani (Ram Kapoor) has been replaced in place of Ram Jethmalani, Sucheta Dalal has been told as Meera Rao (Ileana D’Cruz).
Now the names have been separated, but the story is there, of the biggest scam. Harshad Mehta’s Struggle will be shown, his greed will be told, his secret strategy will also be known. It is just to see that in what style has director Cookie Gulati served in front of the audience.
Only The Typical Bollywood Masala in The Big Bull?
The biggest difference in the world of Bollywood film and OTT here is that spices are served in one place and in other places you get a glimpse of reality. Big Bull has told the story of Harshad Mehta, but a lot of chilli-masala.
If you had added a little spice to the reality, then it would have been understood, but here it turned upside down. The emphasis has been on chili and spice, do not complain, so have put the temper of reality on top. Just here, it disappointed me.
The biggest trick of the makers
Big Bull’s makers have also played a game with the audience. This film is divided into two parts. Harshad Mehta is a thief in the first part, but he becomes the Messiah as soon as the second part comes.
In the first part, he earned a lot of money through Inside Trading or whatever technical name he wanted to give, but in the second part, he filled the pocket of the common man.
Makers have made it clear from their side that we are not going to take any kind of risk. You decide whether Harshad Mehta was a thief or a messiah. The audience can also question – why should we see this film again?
Abhishek The Big Bull or Big Down?
Let’s talk about acting. The entire ground is open for Abhishek Bachchan. He has to hit fours and sixes, he has to pursue these innings on his own. Work has been done, it would have been better if he had learned to speak Gujarati.
He has spoken just as much Gujarati as any non-Gujarati man does to become a Gujarati. In between, his ‘Ravan’ laugh is also made to realize that yes we are watching Bollywood movies and Abhishek Bachchan is an actor, not Harshad Mehta.
Had anyone been able to impress?
Soham Shah has not been able to fit in the role of Harshad Mehta’s brother. In fact, it is said that Ashwin Mehta became a lawyer and in many cases kept fighting to save his brother.
But in the Big Bull, you will only get to see the ill-treatment. A weak brother who just tries to save himself.
Talking about Ileana D’Cruz, she has been given the biggest role of her career. Instead of becoming a glam doll, she got a stronger role. Result – Disappointed. We couldn’t see The journalist in her.
Ram Kapoor, Nikita Dutta, Saurabh Shukla, Supriya Pathak… all of them just kept acting, the real characters were left behind.
If The Big Bull had released Bull before Scam1992, would it have been different? Probably yes, but still it would have remained a typical Bollywood film where there would have been only and only Bollywood Masala, a plot with a Kamolika, and the film would have ended.
